Dunfermline and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman is facing an internal challenge to stand for the seat at the next election.
Chapman resigned as SNP treasurer in 2021, less than six months into the role, after claiming he "had&nbsp;not received the support or financial required" to carry out information his duties.
Police Scotland later launched a probe into the party's finances.
Chapman was also one of the few MPs who stuck by former finance secretary Kate Forbes throughout the leadership contest.
It was reported that local councillor&nbsp;Naz Anis-Miah is the leading candidate for the seat. He is said to be backed by Shirley-Anne Somerville. Both backed Humza Yousaf's leadership bid.
One MP said: "It is nuts. It seems that anyone asking any questions about finance is targeted."
Chapman said: "Having candidate selections in the run-up to an election is nothing new." The SNP was contacted for comment.
