The Court of Session in Edinburgh heard an expert has assessed Ahmad lost &pound;57million following the decision to take him to court.
The court heard Ahmad had previously sought &pound;2million compensation from the Lord Advocate. He was one of many prosecuted by the Crown after a police probe into the takeover of Rangers by Craig Whyte in 2012.
But nobody was convicted and the probe has been described as a "malicious prosecution".
Prosecutors have paid tens of millions of pounds to other people arrested during the probe and are facing a number of other claims.
Yesterday, the court heard the figure being sought had risen as a consequence of the expert financial report by Stuart Andrews.
Advocate Ewan Campbell told judge Lord Harrower: "The figure of &pound;60million arises as its basis the expert opinion of Mr Stuart Andrews who estimates the losses of in excess of &pound;57million and there will be issues of interest."
He added: "The defender has not been under any illusion that the figure was going to be &pound;2million."
The Lord Advocate's lawyer, Gerry Moynihan, QC, said his client needed more time to assess the report.
Lord Harrower gave parties more time to prepare their case. A procedural hearing will be held on September 14.
