SCOTS researchers have created a drug to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease hailed as the first breakthrough in 20 years.
TauRx, an Aberdeenshire life sciences company, is waiting for regulators to sign off the first&nbsp;preventative treatment for deteriorating brain disease.
The drug will tackle the "underlying pathology" of the disease, which is one of the UK's&nbsp;leading causes of death. TauRx's results from its late-stage clinical trial, LUCIDITY, show the new investigational drug leads to sustained cognitive improvement at a clinically detectable stage of&nbsp;Alzheimer's - offering the prospect of improved brain function.
It is now pursuing regulatory submissions in the UK, US and Canada to prepare for market availability.
