Furious islanders demand action from ferry bosses after being left with no transport link for a month

ISLANDERS have demanded an emergency meeting with ferry chiefs after their vital link to the mainland was halted for a month.

CalMac is accused of abandoning South Uist by axing its mainland link between Lochboisdale and Mallaig for a month, creating significant economic losses for island businesses and disruption for islanders.

Around 500 people, totalling one-third of the population of South Uist, took part in Sunday's protest about ferry cancellations.

Robbie Drummond, chief executive of CalMac, said: "I will be in Lochboisdale to meet local representatives on Monday.
