The victim, named by locals as Monica, was discovered just after 6.30 pm on Wednesday when police were called to the house.
Reports said she had been shot three times from close range and was found by a plumber who had arrived to work on the expat's home. He said he had seen a couple leaving the property, in Elche, near Alicante, in a black Peugeot.
