As Jordan McSweeney, 29, appeared in court accused of her murder, Zara Aleena's loved ones hailed her as a "beloved human, friend to all".
He is also accused of robbing the 35-year-old and trying to rape her as she walked home in Ilford, East London, on Sunday.
He appeared briefly at Thames magistrates court but no plea was indicated.
An Aleena family statement said: "Zara believed that a woman should be able to walk home.
"Now, her dreams of a family are shattered, her future brutally taken." McSweeney will appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.
