AS stubborn Tories continue their battle with NHS staff over pay, Sir Rod Stewart has insisted nurses and doctors are right to strike.
And the star, until recently an avid Conservative, was joined by former Commons speaker John Bercow in demanding No10 put health workers first and cough up for a fair pay rise for their dedication.
Sir Rod also offered to pay for more MRI scans to get waiting lists down but revealed no departments are taking up the offer.
Speaking as a 48-hour nurses strike in England from next Sunday looms ahead of ambulance staff walk-outs, the 78-year-old said they were "absolutely right" to down tools until the stubborn Tories see sense and pay them what they are worth.
Sir Rod added: "I'm well on their side. I was absolutely with them, they come before anything.
