BRITAIN faces a “significant risk” of gas shortages this winter, with some power stations potentially cut off, the industry watchdog has warned.
Ofgem said Russia’s war in Ukraine had increased the threat of a “gas supply emergency” here.
Its admission is likely to add to fears of blackouts because the UK relies on gas plants for the biggest share of its electricity supplies.
In a letter to energy giant SSE, the watchdog said: “Due to the war in Ukraine and gas shortages in Europe, there is a significant risk that gas shortages could occur during the winter.
