DAVID Leon is returning to crime drama Vera as detective Joe Ashworth - and working out what co-star Brenda Blethyn thinks about it is not a tough case to crack.
She previously said of his 2014 departure that it "broke my heart" and she never thought she would get over it.
Brenda, 77, who plays Det Chief Insp Vera Stanhope, now says she is delighted to welcome back David, 42.
His character was Vera's right-hand man during the first four series.
David's return for the ITV show's 13th&nbsp;series - which is expected to consist of three feature-length films and is due to air next year - coincides with the departure of Kenny Doughty, 48.
He has played Aiden Healy since 2015 but has quit exploring new roles.
Ibinabo Jack, 40, who has played Det Con Jacqueline Williams since 2018, is also leaving. She plans to concentrate&nbsp;on her theatre commitments. Brenda said: "It's been such a pleasure to work alongside Kenny and Ibinabo.
"They've both been terrific members of the Vera team, and I'll miss them.
"I'm absolutely over the moon to welcome David back to the show and can't wait to get started."
Since quitting Vera almost a decade ago, David has appeared in TV shows such as In the Dark and Silent Witness.
Kenny and Ibinabo's final Vera appearance will be screened this year.
