TIME TO TAX OIL BARONS' BIG BONUSES

DEMANDS grew for a windfall tax on energy barons after the boss of oil giant Shell raked in nearly £10 million in pay and perks last year.

Fatcat CEO Ben van Beurden’s income leapt 50% as Shell benefited from rocketing wholesale energy prices on the back of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The bonanza included £7.5m worth of bonuses in 2022, van Beurden’s last year in the job.

Shell posted a record £32.2billion profit for 2022.

Alice Harrison, fossil fuels campaign leader at Global Witness, said: “Shell’s CEO earned in one year what a typical UK worker would earn in six lifetimes.
