The original 1978 movie cast

Christopher Reeve played the Man of Steel in all four of the original movies. His final Superman movie, The Quest For Peace, was released in 1987.

In 1995, Reeve suffered a catastrophic riding accident, which left him paralysed and needing a ventilator to breathe. He died in October 2004, aged 52, after going into cardiac arrest.

Margot Kidder played Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, who is Clark Kent/ Superman's love interest.

Already established in Hollywood, she had appeared in The Amityville Horror and Some Kind of Hero. She died from suicide, aged 69, in May 2018.
