UNIONS have warned of a bitter fight ahead after plans to avert thousands of job losses at the UK's biggest steelworks were rejected by bosses.

A last-ditch bid to save 2,800 roles at Tata Steel in Port Talbot, South Wales, has been thrown out, despite trade union Community calling it a "credible alternative".

Community's Alun Davies said: "This is an incredibly disappointing day for Tata steelworkers who have been betrayed by a company which owes them so much."
