SERGEANT Matt Ratana’s death could have been avoided if police had carried out a proper search of the gunman who killed him, his grieving partner claims.
Su Bushby, 47, is now suing Scotland Yard after a coroner outlined in an inquest failures that let Louis de Zoysa smuggle a revolver into a custody suite and shoot the 54-year-old officer.
The killer had been arrested and searched before being brought in but rookie PC Richard Davey did not spot the weapon in an underarm holster.
De Zoysa was not wearing handcuffs nor was he being held by an officer.
