A FORMER serviceman has become the first person to climb Mount Kilimanjaro while carrying a fridge.
HGV driver Michael Copeland scaled the 19,340ft volcano, Africa's highest mountain, with the 30kg appliance on his back.
The ex-Army fitness instructor, 39, reached the peak on Monday after a seven-day hike to raise awareness about mental health.
He previously said he felt "lost" after leaving the Army in 2007.
Michael said the hardest part of his climb, in Tanzania, was altitude sickness. The dad of two, from Stafford, said: "Most people struggle up there without a fridge.

"You get pressure in the head and wheezy breathing.
"I've been bodybuilding for 10 years. I'm only 5ft 7in and lean so I'm built for carrying fridges.
"The ascent is the hardest part.
We started at 1am. I had difficulty breathing because at that altitude your blood isn't getting oxygenated. I did 30km on three hours sleep, we hiked for 10 to 12 hours.
"The head guy was shocked. He said I had the heart of a lion and the blood of a mountain goat."
The ex-Grenadier Guard previously lugged a fridge up Britain's three highest peaks for charity.
