A CONSUMER watchdog is challenging airlines to prove their claims that paying passengers compensation is putting their businesses at risk.

Which? has poured scorn on no-frills carriers that have lobbied the Government to slash payouts for delays and cancellations.

Airlines state these could amount to 3% of annual turnover. But Which? said: "Shockingly, no evidence to back these claims was produced."
