THE Christmas special of Doctor Who will feature Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan as the Time Lord's companion.
Neither departing sidekick Millie Gibson nor incoming helper Varada Sethu will appear in the festive episode, which was filmed last year.
Nicola will take on the major guest role alongside Ncuti Gatwa on Christmas Day.
The Galway actress, 37, has already worked with Ncuti on Hollywood blockbuster Barbie.
Showrunner Russell T Davies favours using guest stars for the Christmas shows.
His previous festive hirings include Catherine Tate in 2006 as Donna Noble, Kylie Minogue as Astrid Peth in 2007 and David Morrissey as Jackson Lake in 2008.
