A DAZZLING fireball that streaked across the night sky was believed to have been a cricket ball-sized lump of space junk crashing to Earth.

The UK Meteor Network said it had received nearly 800 reports of a blazing light seen from Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England from about 9pm Wednesday night.

It said it was likely to be space debris that landed off the coast of Scotland
