BRITISH 400m king Matt Hudson-Smith delivered on his bold promise to complete a full set of major medals by retaining his European title.
The 27-year-old from Wolverhampton clocked 44.53sec to beat Swiss star Ricky Petrucciani, with British team-mate Alex Haydock-Wilson bagging a surprise bronze.
Hudson-Smith won World Championship bronze in Oregon before being denied a Commonwealth title by Zambian surprise package Muzala Samukonga.
But he banished those demons last night as a lightning turn of pace off the final bend proved too hot for Petrucciani to handle and capped a searing season.
Haydock-Wilson ran a massive race in his maiden European final to haul himself onto the podium by the barest of margins.
