CHANCELLOR Jeremy Hunt has said he is content with an interest rate rise that risks recession.
As the Bank of England nudges the rate upwards- with 5.5% possible soon borrowers will be squeezed and investment in businesses deterred.
When asked if he felt "comfortable" with rate hikes that could send the economy into reverse, Mr Hunt said: "Yes... inflation is a source of instability. It's a trade-off between tackling inflation and recession. The only path to sustainable growth is to bring down inflation. Speaking on Sky News yesterday, Mr Hunt said the Bank of England needed more "support" for having to make hard choices.
Inflation fell from 10.1% in March to 8.7% in April, but food prices&nbsp; soared more than 19%. A City expert yesterday predicted a recession will come within months.
