THE Hawaiian wildfires death toll rose to 93 as it emerged officials were warned the island of Maui was a tinderbox years ago.
In 2014, the Hawaii Wildfire Management Organisation called for action to protect historic Lahaina, a town that was razed in last week's fires.
The report called for the thinning of vegetation and better wildfire-response capabilities but insufficient action was taken due to lack of cash.
