ENGLAND'S women yesterday sent the nation into raptures with a 2-1 victory over Germany in the Euro 22 final at Wembley.
Sub Chloe Kelly sparked jubilant scenes as she poked home the winner in extra time to become European Champions and scoop the squad's first major trophy win.
The stadium erupted in ecstatic scenes that were replicated in pubs, clubs, and homes across the land, with 20 million watching on TV.
And as the final whistle blew after a thrilling 120-minute encounter, the song Football's Coming Home rang out in the warm Wembley air.
England's historic victory is testament to how far the women's game has come and ushers in a new era for the game here.
And the Queen was one of the first to congratulate the triumphant Lionesses, while they were still celebrating their incredible win.
"My warmest congratulations, and those of my family, go to you all.
"It is a significant achievement. You have all set an example that will be an inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations.
"It is my hope that you will be as proud of the impact you have had on your sport as you are of the result."
Goalscorer Chloe, 24, had whipped off her top as she reeled away to celebrate her winning goal, pursued by delighted team-mates.
She surveyed the joyous Wembley crowd as she was being interviewed afterwards and declared: "Oh my God, look at them. It's amazing, honestly.
"Thank you every single person that got out to support us. This is unreal. This is what dreams are made of.
"As a young girl watching women's football, now this." Chloe missed on a place at the Olympics last year through injury so the goal marked a personal triumph months for her after of rehabilitation.
