A VICTIM of PC David Carrick has welcomed his life sentence saying she feels liberated and relieved”.
After he was given a minimum 32-year jail term, Joanna” not her real name blamed her ordeal on officers who cleared one of Britain's most prolific rapists to stay in the Metropolitan Police.
Carrick, 48, remained impassive as he was sentenced at Southwark crown court, South London, yesterday watched by a number of his 12 victims.
It came as Hertfordshire Police released footage of a shirtless Carrick being arrested in October 2021 at his home in Stevenage, in which he tells officers: What is it youre searching for?
“Theres no necessity. I've only been a police officer for 20 years.’
Justice Cheema-Grubb said Carrick had behaved as if he was untouchable” and used his position to take monstrous advantage of women” over 17 years. She said that Carrick had tried to kill himself in Belmarsh prison.
But she added: You were driven to try to commit suicide as a self-pitying reaction to the shame brought on you by these proceedings rather than remorse.’
