Australian Daniel was hit by a wave and landed on his head in New South Wales last December, going into cardiac arrest.
His life was saved by two off-duty medics who were on the beach in Central Coast, north of Sydney.
Suffering severe spinal cord compression, Daniel is now quadriplegic.
He said: "Right now I need assistance with everything - brushing my teeth, feeding, bathing, having a coffee.
