China Taiwan threat as US Speaker arrives

CHINA reacted with fury as US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan yesterday, sending dozens of tanks onto the beaches of Fujian, the province opposite the disputed island.

Beijing also sent warplanes to the area and began live fire drills, while its military’s eastern command posted a video saying it was poised for action.

Pelosi, a long-time critic of China, defied the White House to go ahead with the visit, ignoring warnings that America would pay the price.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping last week told President Joe Biden: “Whoever plays with fire will get burnt.”
