GINO D'Acampo has thrown his weight behind a campaign to cut down on food waste.

The TV chef got to work after a study found more than eight million shopping baskets' worth of fruit and vegetables get thrown out every year.

The data was compiled by Love Food Hate Waste, which says that produce being sold in multipacks is a major cause of the problem.

Publicising the group's message, Gino, 47, surprised supermarket shoppers buying loose items by jumping out of a hiding place and giving them a twirl to say thanks.
