The ceasefire came into force at 10.30pm after three days of shelling from both sides, a source revealed.

Islamic Jihad took the fight with Israel into a third day, firing rockets at the outskirts of Jerusalem.

Islamic Jihad had targeted Jerusalem in retaliation for Israel killing Khaled Mansour in Rafah, its commander in southern Gaza.

The militants had claimed: “The blood of the martyrs will not be wasted.”
