City boss must lift side for title run-in

PEP'S TEST

SOME hangovers are worse than others and the Manchester City and Pep Guardiola brought back from Madrid will be a humdinger.

In normal circumstances it would take some shifting think an international break or three weeks on the beach.

Despite tired legs and minds from Wednesday night, this is one Guardiola and his players have to put behind them in time for Sunday's game at home to Newcastle, or risk an entire season unravelling to nothing.

Such an outcome would be only the second time Guardiola has drawn a blank in his managerial career.

It would also be an outcome, in a campaign in which they held hopes of a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble, as unthinkable as it would be unfair.

The Champions League is now threatening to cast shadow over Guardiola's legacy.

Wednesday's collapse at Real Madrid was not down to him.
