BRITAIN’S former ambassador to Myanmar could be jailed for five years after she was arrested by the country’s ruthless junta.
Vicky Bowman was charged with violating immigration law along with her husband.
The mother-of-one, who was envoy from 2002 to 2006 and now runs the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business, was arrested on Wednesday in Yangon.
Her husband and artist Htein Lin is a former political prisoner. The pair have been sent to Yangon’s notorious Insein prison, with a trial scheduled for September 6. Sources said the couple’s daughter, 14, is “safe and well”.
