Green building expert wins payout after yacht fridge sliced off end of finger

AN environmentalist could be awarded £1million in damages after the end of her finger was "guillotined" in a yacht's fridge door.

Sara Turnbull, an expert in green buildings, had to quit her role at an architect's firm because she could no longer sketch or use a computer properly, she told the High Court.

She also had to hire staff to help her in other consultancy work because of her reduced ability to type and was claiming for future loss of earnings.

Judge Simon Brown found the top-opening appliance was inherently unsafe in a ruling he said would have "wider implications" for other yachts.
