The female MPs of yesteryear included Margaret Thatcher, Barbara Castle, Shirley Williams, Betty Boothroyd, Jo Richardson, Clare Short and Lynda Chalker. Then came positive discrimination and a host of mini-skirted wonders. The walk along Downing Street became a fashion parade.
