THE Victims' Commissioner quit dramatically yesterday, warning the criminal justice system was "in chaos".
In a scathing letter to new Justice Secretary Brandon Lewis, Dame Vera Baird said the huge backlog of cases had exposed crime victims to "intolerable delay, anguish and uncertainty".
Dame Vera, who will leave at the end of the month, also condemned the Government's record on the "shamefully low charging rates" of rape subjects and said its flagship Victims' Bill remained "inadequate".
