JOFRA ARCHER might well be the show this quickest bowler on summer, but until then both he and England are going to take things slow and steady.
The aim is to ensure he is firing on all cylinders come the Ashes and the World Cup that follows, so if that means throttling back for now, so be it. Archer was rested in the middle games of the three-match ODI series against South Africa and Bangladesh, showing just how carefully England are treading as they build him back to full fitness.
Back-to-back matches would be a test for the 27-year-old, playing again following elbow surgery, but at some point he will need to meet that challenge. Just not yet.
