That is why he took the award-winning role of Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 The Godfather.
Zane, below, said: "When they called him about the gangster movie, he did it to fund what they were trying to create on Teti'aroa."
The biopic is based on the architect Bernard Judge's memoir about his work with Brando, who died aged 80 in 2004, and it is being marketed at Cannes.
