Flash Group to cease Malaysia operations

Company adjusting strategy in the region

- SUCHIT LEESA-NGUANSUK

Flash Group, Thailand's unicorn startup, recently announced the closure of its express delivery operations in Malaysia as of Jan 31 after more than three years of service.

The decision reflects the increasingly challenging landscape of the logistics industry.

Express delivery services are expected to face worsening conditions not only in Thailand but also across Southeast Asia, where massive e-commerce platforms dominate the delivery market and intensify competition.

Meanwhile, the Trade Competition Commission (TCC) is set to launch new guidelines next month to address unfair trade practices and actions that may constitute monopolies or restrict competition in multi-sided platform businesses, particularly within e-commerce.

The guidelines were scheduled to be launched in October 2025, but were postponed. The guidelines aim to give online sellers greater freedom in choosing their logistics providers.

Lazada and Shopee operate their own logistics and fulfilment services, while TikTok Shop maintains a close partnership with J&T Express.
