However, since beating North Walsham in early October, they have lost just once, against third place Esher, and last week sealed a crucial 27-19 win against Wimbledon.
Centre Charlie Corrigan, 23, said: “I think there’s been a bit of a mind shift in training. It got a lot more intense where every drill we set goals out of what we want to achieve.
“I think it’s translating to the game where we’ve built the behaviours of training and that’s now proving on the field.”
In the win against Wimbledon their young centre pairing of Corrigan and Barney Stone shone and more than held their own.
Stone, 20, said: “Getting a win away against them is massive for us because they have been picking up bonus points and we haven’t.”
