NEW CHIEF EYES HOMECOMING!

NEW chairman Eric Perez swooped into Truro City this week with a “guarantee” of a long-awaited homecoming in time for next season.

The National South outfit, in its third season groundsharing more than 50 miles away at Plymouth Parkway having sold its Treyew Road headquarters to supermarket chain Lidl, has been taken over by the Canadian consortium behind Cornwall’s rugby league club, formed in 2021.

It brings to an end almost four years of being owned by the same group as rugby union club Cornish Pirates, which harboured hopes of upgrading Truro’s new football ground to become Premiership compliant.

The long-winded process saw the local council row back from initial plans for a 10,000-capacity stadium but funding to rehome the football club was ringfenced as part of the planning conditions for the supermarket. Work on the more modest provision for the White Tigers is underway on that same site.
