CHESTERFIELD are just one point away from clinching the National League title after battling rivals Oldham Athletic ensured the champagne remained on ice.
The Spireites knew that victory in this lunchtime kick-off at Boundary Park would seal their return to the EFL if Barnet later failed to beat Woking.
Oldham, however, hadn't read the script and stormed into an early 2-0 lead in the opening quarter, through a James Norwood penalty and Dan Gardner, only for a fine Bailey Hobson strike and a Joe Quigley spot-kick to earn the Spireites a hard-fought point.
Second-placed went down 1-0 at Woking, meaning that Paul Cook's men can clinch the title with six games to spare on Wednesday night when they make the trip to FC Halifax Town.
