Willoughby, 25, first burst onto the scene at FC United, where he scored 20 goals in the 2019-20 campaign to win England C honours and earn a switch to the National League Premier with AFC Fylde.
That move, however, fell flat and while a subsequent stint at York City yielded promotion to the top-flight, it failed to spark a return to form.
Since joining Chester on a one-year deal last summer, however, Willoughby has rediscovered his poacher’s instinct and after 20 goals in 45 games now has a string of suitors stretching high into the EFL.
League Two Tranmere Rovers are rumoured to be in the hunt, as are long-time admirers Oldham and even a brace of sides from League One. Willoughby, though, has no doubt he can make the leap.
