Matt Lowton, who was still starring for Burnley in England’s top-flight as recently as last year, was unveiled as the Northern Premier League club’s latest recruit on Monday.
“Right place, right time – at least it was for us!” Albion boss Jon Macken told The NLP when asked how the Northwich club completed the coup of the popular full-back.
“Football, especially at our level, is about contacts. And that definitely applies in this case.”
The 34-year-old’s eightyear stay at Turf Moor ended during the summer.
It was during a conversation in June at the wedding of Everton defender James Tarkowski, where Lowton was a guest of his former Burnley teammate, that the possibility of playing Non-League was put to him by groomsman Kyle Riley.
