A SPECTACLE
The Dior Fall 2023 collection, presented in Mumbai against the landmark Gateway of India monument, was one for the books. India is known for its intricate handicrafts and long-standing role in manufacturing European high fashion, and that artisanship was front and foremost throughout the collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri worked closely with Karishma Swali, director of Mumbai’s Chanakya Atelier and the Chanakya School of Craft, to create 99 looks that celebrate embroidery, Madras check and Benarasi brocade fabrics, mirror work, Nehru collars and kurta tailoring, as well as the revisited toile de Jouy in an India-inspired colour palette. Tatler’s top picks include silk blouses and dresses with decorative motifs and heavily embroidered handbags that carry the wealth of Indian savoir-faire.
