Inspired by his struggle to fit in at school due to childhood illness, Michael Chan established Companion HK in 2020 to campaign against mental health stigma and encourage discussion around mental health in Hong Kong. One in seven people in the city will develop a mental disorder during their lifetime, and where mental wellbeing is still recovering to pre pandemic levels, according to mental health charity Mind HK.
Here, Chan explains how his mission has helped him overcome his own barriers.
