The Whole Nine Yards
Shastri Nagar station was abuzz with festive cheer! This metro station in Chennai received an enormous bundle of expensive saris as Diwali gifts, but then came a call from the Vijayawada police in Andhra Pradesh, dashing all their joy. Their counterparts had phoned in to let them know that the shiny sarees that had arrived with no benefactors in tow, were in fact stolen goods! The saris valued at around ₹2 lakh had been filched from a saree shop in Besant Nagar on 28 October. The Chennai police found a four-minute CCTV footage of a gang of half-a-dozen saree-clad women working their magic through the shop-a couple of them engaging the salespersons, while the sticky-fingered rest pinched the inventory and coolly walked out.
