Country music queen Gina Jeffreys is in a very happy place. The trials of cancelled concerts – thanks to COVID and lockdowns – have dissipated and now, after an out-of-the-blue phone call, the singer is riding a career high.

Just when you thought Gina, 54, couldn’t add any more strings to her alreadyimpressive bow, she’s now a radio DJ, spinning records and making merry for her growing band of loyal listeners.

“I believe in miracles,” Gina tells New Idea, beaming with a new lease on life. “COVID created havoc for everyone on the planet. For those of us in the entertainment industry it saw us having to cancel concerts, re-arrange gigs and then have to cancel them all over again.”

Then came the phone call from the Nova Radio Network’s Star 104.5, based on the NSW Central Coast, asking Gina if she could fill in at the last moment on their breakfast program.

“I went in, still shellshocked from lockdown, filled in and suddenly, I found myself laughing again, making jokes with [co-host] DJ Rabbit … we just clicked.”
