'It's now a space where we can truly relax and unwind'

Having finally bitten the bullet and taken on an upstairs renovation to give their three-bed house an extra two bedrooms and a shower room, Laurie Davidson and her boyfriend Wayne spent two months sleeping in their dining room while the work was carried out. 'Our home was completely upside-down for a while,' says Laurie. 'We had to move out of our bedroom as the roof was being taken off and walls were coming down. It was chaos, but we just focused on the fact it wouldn't be forever. Plus, it gave us the chance to rethink what we wanted from our bedroom in terms of décor.'

THE PROJECT

Some space was 'borrowed' from the master bedroom in order to create a hallway for the new extension, so the couple were keen to create a tranquil scheme in what was now a slightly smaller room. "The part of the bedroom that we lost was originally home to our wardrobes, but as we'd turned our second bedroom into a dressing room, we didn't really need them anymore,' explains Laurie. "The room was still a good size and our plan was to make it feel really calm, with soft colours, good storage and a minimalist design.'
