practicality has to reign when it comes to creating a family home. That was Yun Yi’s mantra when she began renovating this 5-room resale flat with her husband, ensuring first and foremost that the space made sense for their two young kids.
Originally chosen because of its convenient location, size and brightness, the unit felt right to the couple from the start, seeing the potential in its positive Feng Shui. The square layout of the flat made it relatively easy to plan the placement of the furniture, while the balcony was levelled and opened up to become an extension of the living area.
“It makes our living room looks really big and spacious,” shares Yun Yi, happy that her kids have plenty of room to run around and play.
As for the colours and materials, the couple opted for a mix of white and wood, finding it a timeless combination that visually expands their space.
Since both parents work in landscaping and have a love for greenery, they also incorporated some botanical elements in the form of patterned tiles. These can be seen along the kitchen backsplash and inside the shower, instantly livening up these spaces.

One of the bathrooms was even fitted with a range of tall, faux plants that climb all the way up to the ceiling and help to conceal the piping in the corner.
