Forget quick showers in a rush; showers have become peaceful spaces for chilled me-time and mindful rejuvenation. No longer simply functional utilitarian areas, they have become design features in their own right, influenced by the global design trend towards minimalism and clean lines.

BIG PICTURE

“A shower is a big part of a bathroom, so make sure it blends in well,” says Stacy Varkel of Stacy Varkel Interiors.

“Think beautiful clean lines fitting seamlessly into an uncluttered bathroom design. Keep it super simple and sleek with frameless glass that disappears, making the space appear bigger and more spacious. Showering in a minimalist bathroom with clean lines, as much space as possible, and no clutter is the best way to start the day and clear your mind.”

TILE TALES

Large-format tiles work very well in bathrooms. “Use them on the bathroom floor and then continue the tiles onto the shower floor and up the shower walls so that the shower forms a seamless part of the pared-down bathroom look,” says Varkel. “Then just add frameless glass, sleek fittings and carefully selected accessories, which should be the real focal point of the bathroom’s features and tie the design elements together.”
