At Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa, the hotel's interiors are as much of a delight as the spectacular views outside. Long-time supporters of Irish crafts people and artists, the team at this sumptuous, family owned, Atlantic coast hideaway continue to refresh and upgrade the hotel, introducing homemade talent wherever they can.
The support of Irish Artists is central to the considered approach towards the interior concept at Inchydoney. Nikki O'Donnell of NODA Architects, long time collaborators at the resort says, 'When we were first invited to the project, we spent a few days there and fell in love with the West Cork landscape. So, we worked on how to translate that palette and the feeling of this landscape into the interior of the hotel. We wanted guests to feel connected to the location.
'The elements that contribute to the interior are the material palette, pattern, lighting, furniture, art and the sense of the locale.'
The architects spoke to owner Des O'Dowd about engaging with local artists and craftspeople. They knew that he already had a significant art collection and a beautiful selection of Joseph Walsh furniture. To this, they added local pottery which can be seen on display in the restaurant.
