The wellness revolution has found its way into our bathrooms and powder rooms, creating beautiful calming spaces that rejuvenate the spirit and pique the imagination

A wellness bathroom is a space to indulge the senses, and it's also where you'll find splashes of luxury and plenty of style. A tranquil Zen-inspired bathroom is the ultimate in self-care and goes beyond eating well and doing some gentle exercise. Nurturing mind, body and spirit means taking time out to replenish and restore, and with a bathroom that's designed with holistic wellness in mind, you're off to a great start.

From bathtubs filled with bubbles you can luxuriate in to showerheads that offer a gentle H2O massage while washing away the cares of the day, and subtle lighting that casts a warm, welcoming glow, there's lots on offer in new-look wellness bathrooms.

Fiona Schot from Schots Home Emporium says creating an aesthetically pleasing and functional wellness space takes careful planning. First, assess the space. Can you fit in a generous free-standing tub? Or would a luxurious double shower with a seating space be a better option? "The style of the rest of the home should also be considered so the bathroom complements the overall design," notes Fiona.

And of course, durability and ease of cleaning are important factors as you'll want to spend time enjoying your tranquil space, not scrubbing it.

Fiona says sourcing products that are fit for purpose is always good advice to improve the longevity of your wellness space. "Bathrooms can be high-traffic areas subject to moisture and heat, so the use of waterproof and nonporous materials such as tiles, glass and stone is recommended for flooring, walls and surfaces," she says.
