Does your cat use your couch to sharpen their claws, caterwaul as if they're being tortured if they aren't fed at first light or hide under the bed when the cat carrier comes out? If so, it might be time for some training. Contrary to popular belief, cats can be taught to do everything from coping with getting their teeth brushed to walking on a leash. It's all about learning the secrets to success with your particular pet. Because cats instinctually know how to do things like use a litter box (while dogs need to be trained not to use the carpet), many cat owners never try training them. But well-timed training that relies on positive reinforcement can help with getting cats to do important things like come when called; travel in a carrier; allow nail trims, grooming and toothbrushing; and even take medicine.
