Houseplants grace our interiors throughout the year, but offer the greatest joy during the winter months as the garden sleeps, feeding our need for the beauty of foliage and flowers.
Knowing how to care for houseplants over winter is important as they rely on us to provide them with the correct conditions when the days are shorter and the sunlight is less intense. 'As the temperature drops, your plants slow down, and you will need to adapt your care to keep them looking lush and green,' explains Emily Lawlor of Happy Houseplants.
Some indoor plants will have an easier time than others adjusting to the colder temperatures, draughts and dry, heated air inside our homes over the next few months. Those that are native to humid, tropical regions, which make up many of the most popular indoor choices, will have the most difficulty adapting, so make some changes to help them thrive.
